CCI Mean Reversion Backtest in Crypto: Fees, Slippage and Break-Even Costs

CCI mean reversion buys extreme negative readings and sells extreme positive ones. Because CCI is unbounded, the threshold choice changes everything.

Short answer

A CCI mean-reversion strategy buys when CCI falls below a threshold (e.g. −100 or −200) and exits as it returns toward zero. CCI is unbounded, so thresholds that are rare in calm periods become common in volatile ones. Test several thresholds, compute break-even cost for each, use closed-bar values (CCI can spike intrabar) and add protection against trends where CCI stays extreme. Report trade count per threshold to avoid choosing a lucky one.
