ChartsPod DOM Ladder: Settings to Check Before Your First Analysis

A DOM ladder lists bid and ask sizes at each price in a vertical column. ChartsPod lists a live L2 order book; check how it is laid out and grouped.

Short answer

A DOM (depth of market) ladder shows resting bid and ask size at each price, usually with recent traded volume. ChartsPod lists a live L2 order book; check whether it is shown as a ladder or a list, the price grouping (tick aggregation), the number of levels, the size unit and the update speed. Grouping several ticks into one row makes the book look deeper at each row. Note that ChartsPod places no orders; the book is for reading only.

Common first-session mistakes:

  • Comparing rows at different groupings
  • Assuming more levels exist than shown
  • Expecting to place orders from the book

Worked example

Illustrative: at 1-tick grouping, the best bid shows 3.2 BTC. Switching to 25-tick rows shows 61 BTC in the top row. The book didn't deepen; rows got wider.
