Coinigy Portfolio Balances vs Price Charts: Separate Exposure From Signals
Seeing your balances next to a chart is convenient, and it quietly changes how you read the chart. Keep exposure and signals in separate views.
Short answer
Coinigy can show portfolio balances and price charts on the same board. Use balances to answer exposure questions (what you hold, where, and how concentrated) and charts to answer market questions; do not let the size of a holding influence how you read a signal. Practically, keep a private portfolio board and a separate research board, and write the market thesis before checking exposure.
Why mixing them is risky
A large holding makes bullish readings feel more convincing. Separating views is a simple guard against that bias.
A two-step routine
- Open the research board (no balances). Write the thesis and invalidation for each market.
- Open the portfolio board. Compare exposure with the thesis.
- Adjust exposure only where the thesis and exposure disagree.
Building the habit
The two-screen routine works only if it is easy. Make the research board the default view when you open the platform, and put the portfolio board one click away rather than beside it.
When reviewing trades, add a line to each journal entry: "Exposure before decision". If you notice that large positions correlate with more optimistic readings, the separation is doing its job by making the bias visible.
For shared analysis, such as posting charts in a group, only ever share the research board. Balances, order sizes and exchange names can reveal more about you than you intend.
Tooling
Coinigy covers balances across connected exchanges (see Coinigy API Connections: Verify Permissions Before Connecting an Exchange for API permissions). For research without balances in view, a dedicated terminal works: ChartsPod needs no exchange account and shows no portfolio.

Open the ChartsPod terminalRead the market first, check exposure second, and keep the two on different screens.
