DEX Failed Transactions: How to Read the Number Before a Swap
A swap can fail and still cost gas. Repeated failures in a pool can also signal problems with the token or with slippage settings.
Short answer
Failed swap transactions revert, but the network fee is usually still paid. Common causes: price moved beyond your slippage tolerance, insufficient balance or approval, token transfer restrictions, or a contract that blocks sells. Before a swap, check recent failed transactions for the pool if your explorer shows them: many failed sells from different wallets is a warning sign; occasional slippage failures in volatile moments are normal.
What the number means
| Reading | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Slippage exceeded | Price moved; normal in volatility |
| Many failed sells | Possible sell restriction |
| Approval missing | User-side |
| Gas paid on failure | Cost without trade |

Illustrative: 64 failed sells and 8 successful ones in an hour, from many wallets, suggest sells are restricted — check the contract before buying.

Sources and methodology
DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.
