DEX Screener API Does Not Replace OHLCV History: Choose Your Feed
DEX Screener's API is excellent for current pair snapshots. It does not, per its reference, provide candle history. Choose the feed by the data shape you need.
Short answer
DEX Screener's published API reference describes pair, token, profile and boost endpoints with windowed statistics (txns, volume and price change by window), not OHLCV candles. If you need price history for charts, indicators or backtests, use a source that provides pool OHLCV, such as CoinGecko's onchain API, or build candles from swap events yourself. Use DEX Screener for discovery and snapshots and join the two on pool address.
Data shape
Put DEX Screener API Does Not Replace OHLCV History next to price, flow and positioning in one workspace.
Open a ChartsPod workspaceWhy snapshots aren't history
Polling snapshots every minute and storing them gives you a series, but only from when you started, with gaps whenever polling failed, and with windowed aggregates rather than true OHLC. Highs and lows within the minute are lost.
| Approach | History from | OHLC quality |
|---|---|---|
| Polling snapshots | Start of polling | No true highs/lows |
| Pool OHLCV API | Provider's history | True candles |
| Own swap indexing | Chain history | Full control, most work |

Example: what polling misses
Illustrative: a token spikes 18% and reverts within 40 seconds. A one-minute snapshot poll records prices before and after, both near the starting level, and the stored series shows nothing happened. Pool OHLCV for that minute shows the high clearly. For any analysis involving highs, lows or wicks, snapshots are not enough.
Conclusion
Use DEX Screener's API for snapshots and discovery, and a dedicated OHLCV source for candle history.

Does DEX Screener's API provide candles?
Its published reference does not describe OHLCV endpoints.
Can I build candles by polling?
Only from when you start, without true highs and lows.
Where can I get pool candles?
From pool OHLCV sources such as CoinGecko's onchain API.
Sources and methodology
API behaviour comes from DEX Screener's API reference, CoinGecko's onchain API documentation and Binance's USD-M market data documentation as read on 17 October 2026. Code-level details are described conceptually; check current endpoint versions before building. Examples use illustrative values.
- DEX Screener: API reference — token and pair endpoints, nullable fields, rate limits.
- CoinGecko API: Onchain OHLCV WebSocket — pool candles, base/quote selection, nullable fields.
