DEX Token Transfer Fees: How to Read the Number Before a Swap
Some tokens charge a fee on every transfer. A swap then pays it on the way into your wallet and again when you sell.
Short answer
Transfer fees (on EVM tokens as custom tax logic; on Solana via the Token-2022 transfer-fee extension) take a percentage of each transfer. A 5% fee costs about 5% when you buy (tokens arriving in your wallet) and 5% when you sell (tokens sent to the pool), about 9.75% round trip before pool fees and impact. Some taxes can be changed by the owner. Before a swap, read the fee settings and whether they can change.
What the number means
| Reading | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Buy fee | Reduces tokens received |
| Sell fee | Reduces proceeds |
| Changeable by owner | Risk |
| Solana transfer-fee extension | Rate and cap on mint |

Worked: 1 − 0.95 × 0.95 = 9.75% from the transfer fee; adding two 0.3% pool fees gives ≈ 10.3% round trip.

Sources and methodology
DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.
