DEX Volume-to-Liquidity Ratio: How to Read the Number Before a Swap

Volume ÷ liquidity shows how many times a pool's liquidity turned over. Very high ratios can mean activity — or wash trading through a thin pool.

Short answer

The volume-to-liquidity ratio divides 24-hour volume by pool liquidity. A ratio around 0.5–2 is common for active pools; a very high ratio (e.g. 20+) means volume many times the pool's size, which can come from genuine churn, bots or wash trading. A very low ratio means little use. Check the number of transactions and unique makers alongside volume: a high ratio from few wallets is a warning. Remember that DEX Screener volume is never null but liquidity can be.

Example

Illustrative: $400k liquidity and $13.6M volume (34×) from 1,200 transactions by 40 wallets. That's ≈ $11k per trade circulating among a few wallets — consistent with wash or bot activity rather than broad demand.

Sources and methodology

DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.
