GeckoTerminal Pool vs Token Address: Find the Correct Chart

On GeckoTerminal, a token address and a pool address lead to different pages. Using the wrong one is the fastest way to chart the wrong market.

Short answer

A token address identifies the token contract and lets you list every pool where it trades; a pool address identifies one pool and its chart. On GeckoTerminal, start from the token address (CoinGecko's API lists top pools by token address), pick the pool by liquidity and quote token, then use that pool address for the chart. If a chart looks wrong, check whether you opened a secondary pool or a different token sharing the ticker.

Finding the correct chart

Gaps everywhereInactive pool

Example: the wrong pool

Illustrative: a trader searches a ticker and opens the first result, a pool with $15,000 liquidity whose chart shows a 40% wick. The token's main pool, with $2 million liquidity, shows a 3% move at the same time. The wick was one swap in a thin secondary pool.

Starting from the token address and choosing the deepest pool would have avoided the confusion. Bookmark that pool for future analysis.

A habit that saves time

Keep a small table of tokens you follow with three columns: token address, main pool address and quote token. Update it when liquidity moves or a migration happens. Every chart you open, alert you set and note you write should reference the pool address from that table.

Tips

Bookmark pool addresses for tokens you follow. Recheck after migrations (see Solana Token Migration: Find the Active Pool and Preserve Context). Related: GeckoTerminal Search by Contract: Choose the Correct Network and Pool, DEX Screener Search: Token Address vs Pair Address Explained.

Verify with the token address, chart with the pool address, and pick the pool deliberately.

Sources and methodology

DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.

  1. CoinGecko API: Top pools by token address — multiple pools per token.
  2. CoinGecko API: Onchain OHLCV WebSocket — pool candles, base/quote selection, nullable fields.
