Indicators on Spot vs Perpetual Charts: Same Settings, Different Data

The same RSI or VWAP settings on spot and perpetual charts produce different values, because the inputs differ.

Short answer

Indicators applied with identical settings to spot and perpetual charts give different results because the inputs differ: perpetual prices carry a basis (premium or discount) relative to spot, volume is usually much higher on perpetuals, wicks differ, and history starts at different dates. Volume-based indicators (VWAP, OBV, MFI, volume profile) diverge most. Choose the chart that matches your execution, label it, and don't mix signals from both.

Different histories, different warm-ups

Perpetual contracts and spot pairs often list on different dates. An indicator with a long look-back, such as a 200-day moving average, may be fully warmed up on one chart and not on the other. For newer contracts, check that the indicator has enough history before trusting its value, and note that the first months of a contract can behave unlike later periods.
