Inside-Bar Breakout Backtest in Crypto: Fees, Slippage and Break-Even Costs

An inside bar sits within the prior bar's range. Trading its breakout is simple to define, but the tight range makes costs a large share of the move.

Short answer

An inside-bar breakout rule enters when price breaks the high (or low) of a bar whose range is inside the previous bar's range, with a stop at the opposite side. Inside bars are common and often small, so stops are tight and fees plus slippage are a large fraction of risk. Compute costs as a share of the stop distance, filter by minimum bar size or trend, and compute break-even cost.
