Klinger Volume Oscillator in Crypto: Why the Value Changes Before Candle Close

The Klinger oscillator signs volume by the trend of (high + low + close) and smooths it with two EMAs. On the live bar, the sign can flip and volume keeps growing.

Short answer

Klinger: volume force uses volume signed by whether H+L+C rose or fell versus the prior bar, scaled by range factors; KVO = EMA(34) − EMA(55) of volume force, with an EMA(13) signal. On the live bar, H+L+C can cross the prior value (flipping the sign of the whole bar's volume force) while volume accumulates. Signal-line crosses can therefore appear and disappear intrabar. Use closed bars.

Which part of Klinger uses the live bar

ComponentUses current bar?Effect intrabar
Trend sign (H+L+C vs prior)YesCan flip

Like OBV, the sign applies to the whole bar's volume, so a small move across the prior H+L+C swings volume force from large positive to large negative.
