Order Flow at Value-Area High in Crypto: What Price Response Adds to the Reading
The value-area high marks the top of where most volume traded. At it, flow shows whether buyers can extend value or sellers push price back inside.
Short answer
At the prior session's value-area high (VAH), check aggressive buying, offers and acceptance above. If price is accepted above (time and closes beyond VAH, positive delta, OI up), value may be shifting higher. If buying is absorbed and price returns inside, the VAH acted as resistance and a rotation toward the POC is common. Fix the session and value-area percentage before measuring.
Possible price responses
| Price response | Reading |
|---|---|
| Accepted above | Value extending |
| Rejected back inside | Rotation toward POC |
| Absorbed buying | Sellers defending |
| Pulled offers | Weak resistance |
Measuring the response
Define acceptance (e.g. 30 minutes above VAH or two closes), record delta and OI at the test, and measure whether price reaches the POC within N bars after rejection.
Example
Illustrative: buying at the VAH was absorbed; price returned inside and reached the POC within the hour. Measure how often that rotation happens on your market.
