Token Holder Concentration: How to Read the Number Before a Swap
If a few wallets hold most of a token's supply, their decisions set the price. Concentration is a risk number to read before buying.
Short answer
Holder concentration is the share of supply held by the largest wallets. Before a swap, check the top 10 holders' share on a block explorer, then separate contracts that aren't sellers (liquidity pools, burn addresses, verified vesting or bridge contracts) from wallets that can sell. Compare large holders' balances, at current price, with pool liquidity: if one wallet's holding exceeds the pool's quote reserve, its exit alone could crash the price.
What the number means
| Reading | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Top 10 hold < 30% (excl. pools/burns) | Broad distribution |
| Top 10 hold 30–60% | Concentrated; watch large wallets |
| Single wallet > pool liquidity | One exit could crash price |
| Large holder moving to exchange | Possible sale |

Example
Illustrative: wallet A holds 22% of supply, worth $4.4M at current price, while the pool's quote reserve is $300k. Wallet A cannot exit without collapsing price, and any partial sale moves price sharply.

Sources and methodology
DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.
