Token USD Prices: How to Read the Number Before a Swap
A token's USD price on a DEX page is derived: pool price in the quote token, times that quote token's USD price. Two conversions, two places to go wrong.
Short answer
A DEX token's USD price is usually its price in the pool's quote token (e.g. WETH or SOL) multiplied by the quote token's USD price. DEX Screener returns priceNative and priceUsd; priceUsd can be null when USD pricing isn't available. Different pools can show different USD prices because their quote tokens, liquidity and last trades differ. Before a swap, check the pool's quote token, the native price, the time of the last trade and whether priceUsd is present.
What the number means
| Reading | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| priceNative | Price in quote token |
| priceUsd | Native × quote USD (nullable) |
| Different pools | Different quotes and liquidity |
| Stale price | Last trade was long ago |

Example
Illustrative: pool A (TOKEN/WETH) shows $0.0123; pool B (TOKEN/USDC) shows $0.0131. Pool B's last trade was three hours ago. The 6% gap is staleness, not opportunity.

Sources and methodology
DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.
