TradingView Crypto Screener Filters: Spot, Perpetual and Quote Currency
A crypto screen that mixes spot pairs and perpetuals, or USDT and USD quotes, ranks unlike markets against each other. Set the universe before the filters.
Short answer
In TradingView's crypto screening, set the universe first: choose the screener that matches your market (TradingView separates coin, CEX and DEX screeners), restrict to spot or perpetual markets, and restrict to one quote currency such as USDT. Only then apply volume, change or technical filters. Mixed universes inflate results with duplicate listings of the same coin and compare volumes in different units.
Universe before filters
TradingView's screeners walkthrough describes separate coin, CEX and DEX screeners. Each answers a different question: coins as assets, exchange pairs as markets, and DEX pairs as pools.
What goes wrong in mixed universes
| Mix | Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Spot + perpetual | Same coin appears twice with different volumes | Pick one market type |
| USDT + USD + BTC quotes | Volumes in different units ranked together | One quote currency |
| Many exchanges | Top results dominated by duplicates | Limit exchanges or use coin screener |
| Aggregated + venue symbols | Double counting | Exclude aggregated listings |
Worked example: one coin, six rows
An unfiltered crypto screen sorted by 24-hour volume can show the same coin six times: its spot pair against USDT and against USD on two exchanges, and its perpetual on two more. Each row has a different volume and a slightly different price change. Ranking those rows against other coins tells you which listings are busy, not which assets are.
Restrict the screen to perpetual markets quoted in USDT on one exchange and the duplicates collapse to one row per asset. Now a volume ranking compares like with like: the same market type, same quote and same venue's participants. If you want a cross-venue view, use the coin screener for asset-level data and keep it separate from the market-level screen.
Write the universe definition at the top of every saved screen: screener type, market type, quote currency and exchanges. When you revisit the screen weeks later, that line tells you whether a change in results came from the market or from the universe.
Example screen
- Screener: CEX. Market: perpetual. Quote: USDT. Exchange: one venue.
- Filter: 24h volume above a threshold you can justify.
- Filter: 24h change between −3% and +3% (quiet price).
- Inspect each result's open interest change elsewhere to find quiet price with rising positioning.
Open-interest filters are native in ChartsPod's Screener Lab on exchange markets; see How to Create a Volume and Open-Interest Screen in ChartsPod.
Build the same idea with open interest as a filter rather than a manual check.

Why does the same coin appear many times in my screen?
Each exchange pair and contract is a separate market. Restrict exchanges, market type and quote.
Should I screen spot or perpetuals?
Depends on your question. Perpetuals carry funding and OI context; spot reflects cash demand. Screen them separately.
Can TradingView screen DEX pairs?
TradingView describes a separate DEX screener; treat its results as pools, not exchange markets.
Sources and methodology
ChartsPod capabilities were checked against ChartsPod's public pages (home, docs, markets and indicators) on 17 October 2026. Third-party facts come only from the official sources listed. Venue availability inside ChartsPod is shown per tool, so confirm the exact exchange and contract in the terminal before relying on a feature. Worked examples use clearly labelled illustrative numbers, not recorded market data.
