TRIX in Crypto: Warm-Up Bars and Short-History Errors

TRIX is built from three nested EMAs. Its warm-up is roughly three times the period — and it stays start-dependent longer than single EMAs.

Short answer

TRIX(15) takes the 1-bar rate of change of EMA(EMA(EMA(close, 15), 15), 15). Each EMA layer adds about 15 bars before it's meaningful, so first values appear around bar 45, and recursive settling continues well beyond. On short histories TRIX can show trends that are mostly start effects. Allow several times the period of history and compare with a long-history calculation.

Recursive smoothing: values depend on where the series starts and settle only gradually.
