Volume Delta in Crypto: Why the Value Changes Before Candle Close
Per-bar volume delta is buy-aggressor minus sell-aggressor volume within one bar. On the live bar it's a running count that can flip sign many times.
Short answer
Volume delta for a bar sums signed trade volume: + for buyer-initiated, − for seller-initiated. During the live bar it's a running total, so its sign and size can change repeatedly; colour-coded delta bars flip accordingly. Delta-based rules (e.g. 'delta > X on a breakout bar') must use closed values. Also note the method: exchange aggressor flags are exact; candle-based estimates are approximations.
Which part of Volume Delta uses the live bar
| Component | Uses current bar? | Effect intrabar |

| Sell-initiated volume | Yes | Subtracts |
| Delta sign | Yes | Can flip |
