AI Crypto Formula Research: What the Assistant Should Say When Data Is Missing
Formula answers depend on definitions, defaults and data. When the AI isn't sure of a definition or can't test it, it should say so.
Short answer
When formula research has gaps — the indicator has several definitions, a default parameter isn't documented, the worked example couldn't be run on real data, or warm-up behaviour is unknown — a good assistant names the version it's giving, flags uncertain defaults, and says whether the example was computed or illustrative. It shouldn't present one variant as 'the' formula.
Where the data usually runs out
| Missing piece | Why it happens | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Definition | Several variants | Different values |
| Defaults | Undocumented | Mismatch with platform |
| Worked example | Not computed on data | Unverified |
| Warm-up | Unknown | Early values wrong |
What a good answer says
Examples of the wording to expect when formula data is missing:
'There are at least two versions of this oscillator; I'm giving the one that uses typical price.'
'I'm not certain of the platform's default smoothing; check its settings.'
'This example is illustrative, not computed from real candles.'
Overconfident vs honest
- One variant called 'the' formula
- Guessed defaults
- Example not labelled
- No warm-up note
Illustrative: an AI gave one 'money flow oscillator' formula; the user's platform used a different one. Naming the variant would have explained the mismatch.
