ChartsPod Footprint vs Volume Profile: Choose the View for Your Question
Footprint and volume profile both show volume at price. One keeps time, the other collapses it. Pick by the question you are asking.
Short answer
Use the footprint when the question is about sequence and aggression inside candles: where buyers or sellers were aggressive, whether a level absorbed flow, how delta evolved bar by bar. Use volume profile when the question is about where trading accepted value over a range: point of control, value area and low-volume gaps. ChartsPod offers both; a common routine is profile for levels, footprint for the reaction at those levels.
Time kept vs time collapsed

| Question | View |
|---|---|
| Where is fair value this week? | Volume profile |
| Did sellers get absorbed at this level just now? | Footprint |
| Is there a low-volume gap price could move through? | Volume profile |
| Is delta confirming the breakout bar? | Footprint |

Example combining both
Illustrative: a weekly profile shows a low-volume gap between 58,500 and 59,200. Price drops into it. On the footprint, aggressive selling continues through the gap with little absorption, and price reaches the high-volume area below. There, the footprint shows heavy selling met by stable price and positive delta turning, suggesting absorption.
The profile predicted where movement would be easy and where it might stop; the footprint showed what actually happened at each.
Mistakes when combining them
Using a visible-range profile for levels and then scrolling, which moves the levels. Reading footprint delta on one venue against a profile built on another. Treating a POC as a guaranteed reaction point rather than a place to watch the footprint. Fix the profile range and venue, then read reactions.
Settings to align
Use the same venue and contract for both, consistent row sizes and documented profile ranges. See ChartsPod Footprint Setup: Row Size, Imbalance and Coverage Checks and TradingView Volume Profile for Crypto: Select the Range and Volume Units.

Is footprint better than volume profile?
Neither; they answer different questions.
Can I use both at once?
Yes; profile for levels, footprint for reactions.
Why do their volumes differ?
Different ranges, row sizes or side classification.

ChartsPod capabilities were checked against its public overview, documentation index, markets and indicator pages on 17 October 2026. Exact control names inside the terminal can change between releases, so this guide describes what to set and check rather than quoting menu labels.
