Cross-Exchange Funding Differences: How to Read the Data With Price Context
The same perpetual can carry different funding on different venues. The gap tells you where leverage is concentrated, once intervals are matched.
Short answer
Funding differences between venues for the same asset show where long or short demand is concentrated: the venue with higher funding has more aggressive longs relative to its own index. To read it, convert every rate to the same interval (Hyperliquid pays hourly; Binance contracts can have adjusted intervals), compare with each venue's OI change and see which venue leads price. A persistent gap during a rally points to the venue where leverage is building; gaps that close quickly reflect arbitrage at work.
Comparing venues correctly
| Venue | Interval | Displayed | 8h-equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 8h | 0.010% | 0.010% |
| B | 1h | 0.0035% | 0.028% |
| C | 4h | 0.008% | 0.016% |
Price context
| Pattern | Reading |
|---|---|
| Gap widens as price rises | Leverage building on high-funding venue |
| Gap narrows quickly | Arbitrage active |
| High-funding venue leads price | Its traders driving the move |
| Gap persists into a top | Crowded venue at risk |
