CVD at New Price Highs in Crypto: What Price Response Adds to the Reading
When price makes a new high, CVD either confirms with its own new high or lags. Price response after the high tests what the divergence meant.
Short answer
At a new price high, compare CVD (same venue, same anchor period) with its level at the previous high. A CVD high confirms aggressive buying drove the move; a lower CVD suggests the high came with less aggression (passive sellers withdrawing, or short covering). Then measure price response over fixed windows. Confirm the pivot with bars on its right before calling it, and account for the CVD anchor.
Possible price responses
| Price response | Reading |
|---|---|
| CVD confirms, price continues | Aggression-led trend |
| CVD lags, price reverses | Weak high |
| CVD lags, price continues | Passive sellers absent |
| Different anchor periods | Invalid comparison |
Measuring the response
Use confirmed pivots, the same anchor period, and the same venue; record outcomes over N bars for confirming and diverging cases.
Example
Illustrative: price made a 1.2% higher high while CVD was 18% lower than at the prior high; over the next 20 bars price fell 1.5%. Count both outcomes over many highs.
