CVD at New Price Lows in Crypto: What Price Response Adds to the Reading
At a new price low, CVD shows whether sellers pushed harder than at the last low. A higher CVD low is a divergence candidate; price response decides.
Short answer
At a new price low, compare CVD with its level at the previous low within one anchor period. A lower CVD low confirms aggressive selling; a higher CVD low means the new price low came with less selling — buyers absorbing, or sellers exhausted. Long liquidations can distort CVD at lows on perps; check them. Then measure price response after confirmed pivots.
Possible price responses
| Price response | Reading |
|---|---|
| CVD confirms, price continues down | Aggressive selling |
| CVD higher, price reverses | Selling exhausted / absorbed |
| Liquidations dominate | Forced flow |
| Spot vs perp differ | Check both |
Measuring the response
Use confirmed pivots, same venue and anchor, note liquidations, and compare spot and perp CVD at the lows.
Example
Illustrative: price made a 1.0% lower low while CVD was 22% higher than at the prior low and long liquidations were light; price rose 1.8% over the next 20 bars.
