DEX Buy-Sell Volume: How to Read the Number Before a Swap
Buy and sell volume show which side moved more value through the pool. Before a swap, the balance and its trend matter more than either number alone.
Short answer
Buy volume is the value of swaps buying the token; sell volume is the value of swaps selling it. Net volume (buy − sell) over a window shows the direction of flow; its trend across windows shows whether pressure is building or fading. Read it with makers (who) and price change (effect): strong net buying with little price change suggests sellers or liquidity absorbing; net selling with rising price suggests thin liquidity or other pools leading.
What the number means
| Reading | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Net buy, price up | Buyers moving price |
| Net buy, price flat | Absorption or deep liquidity |
| Net sell, price up | Other pools leading or thin book effects |
| Net sell growing | Distribution building |

Sources and methodology
DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.
