DEX Token Search by Ticker: Why Contract Addresses Are Safer
Ticker search returns whatever tokens share a name. Contract addresses return exactly one token per chain.
Short answer
Searching DEX tools by ticker returns every token using that symbol, including impostors that copy names, symbols and logos; results are often ordered by activity, which scammers can manufacture. Contract (or mint) addresses are unique per chain. Get the address from the project's official channel, confirm it on a block explorer, search by address and record it. Use ticker search only for discovery, never for identification.
Why tickers fail
| Search | Unique? | Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Ticker | No | Impostors, ordering manipulation |
| Name | No | Same |
| Contract/mint address | Yes per chain | Wrong chain |

Mistakes
Trusting a verified-looking logo; comparing only the first and last characters of an address; using an address from a social reply rather than the project's own channel. Each has led to buying the wrong token.
Example: a convincing impostor
Illustrative: searching a trending ticker returns a token with the right logo, a website link and $300,000 liquidity at the top of results. Its address differs from the project's official one by a few characters in the middle. The official token, with $4M liquidity, appears third. A buyer who checked only the first and last characters would have bought the impostor.

Where do I get the right address?
From the project's official channels, confirmed on an explorer.
Is the top ticker result usually right?
Not reliably; ordering can be manipulated.
Sources and methodology
API behaviour comes from DEX Screener's API reference, CoinGecko's onchain API documentation and Binance's USD-M market data documentation as read on 17 October 2026. Code-level details are described conceptually; check current endpoint versions before building. Examples use illustrative values.
- DEX Screener: Token listing — listing after first liquidity and trade; supply inputs.
- Solana: Assets on Solana (tokens) — mint accounts, supply, decimals, mint and freeze authority.
- CoinGecko API: Top pools by token address — multiple pools per token.
