Event-Window Momentum Backtest in Crypto: Fees, Slippage and Break-Even Costs
Trading in the direction of the first move after a scheduled event is easy to define. Spread, slippage and reversals in the first minutes decide the result.
Short answer
An event-window momentum rule waits a fixed time after a scheduled release (e.g. 5 minutes after CPI), then trades in the direction of the move so far, exiting after a set window. Spreads and slippage are highest right after releases, and first moves often partially reverse. Use event times in UTC, realistic event-time slippage, next-bar fills and compute break-even cost per event; the sample is small.
