Liquidity Additions: How to Read the Number Before a Swap
Liquidity added to a pool deepens it and lowers price impact. Who added it, and whether they can remove it, decides how much it helps.
Short answer
A liquidity addition deposits both tokens into a pool, increasing depth; in concentrated pools, only additions in range near the current price help immediately. Before a swap, check the size of recent additions relative to the pool, who added them (many providers or one wallet, possibly the deployer), the range for concentrated pools, and whether the resulting LP position can be withdrawn at any time. Liquidity from one wallet can disappear as fast as it arrived.
What the number means
| Reading | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Many providers add | Broad support |
| One wallet adds most | Concentrated control |
| Addition out of range (CLMM) | No immediate depth |
| Deployer adds then trades | Watch for removal |

Example
Illustrative: the deployer adds $300k, lifting quote reserve from $120k to $420k and cutting impact for a $5k swap from about 8% to about 2.4%. Because the LP position is not locked, the same wallet can withdraw it at any time.

Sources and methodology
DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.
- Uniswap: Concentrated liquidity — active liquidity within price ranges.
- DEX Screener: API reference — token and pair endpoints, nullable fields, rate limits.
