Liquidity Removals: How to Read the Number Before a Swap
Liquidity removals make a pool shallower. A large removal by the deployer is the classic warning; ordinary LP rebalancing is common too.
Short answer
A liquidity removal withdraws tokens from a pool, reducing depth and raising price impact. Before a swap, check recent removals: their size relative to the pool, who removed (deployer or many providers), whether removals coincide with price drops, and for concentrated pools whether providers are moving ranges rather than leaving. A single large removal by the deployer or a top holder is a strong warning; routine small removals across many providers are normal.
What the number means
| Reading | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Small, many providers | Routine rebalancing |
| CLMM range moves | Liquidity relocating, not leaving |
| Large, one wallet | Depth and trust drop |
| Removal + selling | Exit in progress |

Example
Illustrative: quote reserve falls from $500k to $140k after the deployer removes liquidity; a $5k swap's impact rises from about 2% to about 7%. Combined with the deployer selling tokens, the pattern resembles an exit.

Sources and methodology
DEX Screener behaviour comes from its official documentation; pool and token concepts from CoinGecko, Uniswap, Raydium and Solana documentation, as read on 17 October 2026. Examples use illustrative numbers and do not refer to any real token. Nothing here is a recommendation to trade any token.
- Uniswap: Concentrated liquidity — active liquidity within price ranges.
- DEX Screener: API reference — token and pair endpoints, nullable fields, rate limits.
