Options Implied-Move Estimates in Crypto: How to Read the Data With Price Context

Implied volatility can be converted into an expected move over a period. It shows what options price in, not what will happen.

Short answer

An implied one-standard-deviation move ≈ spot × IV × √(days ÷ 365). With 55% IV, a 7-day move is about 7.6% and a 1-day move about 2.9%. The ATM straddle price is a common shortcut, roughly 0.8 × that one-sigma move (≈ 6.1% here). Read the implied move with price and the calendar: before scheduled events, short-dated IV and straddles often price larger moves. Compare the implied move with what happened afterwards.
