Order Flow During Asian Trading Hours in Crypto: What Price Response Adds to the Reading
Crypto trades around the clock, but participation shifts by time of day. Order flow during Asian hours can differ in size, venue mix and follow-through.
Short answer
During Asian trading hours (roughly 00:00–08:00 UTC), volume, venue mix and participants differ from European and US hours. Measure delta, volume and price change per unit of delta by session, and check whether moves started in Asian hours hold through the European and US sessions. Session definitions are choices; state yours.
Possible price responses
| Price response | Reading |
|---|---|
| Move holds into US session | Broad acceptance |
| Reverses in Europe/US | Session-specific flow |
| Lower volume | Larger moves per delta |
| Spot-led vs perp-led | Participant mix |
Measuring the response
Fix session times in UTC, compute delta, volume and response per session, and track carry-over into the next session.
Example
Illustrative: Asian-hours rallies on perp-led flow faded in the US session more often than spot-led ones on the same market.
