Order Flow Near a Volume-Profile POC in Crypto: What Price Response Adds to the Reading
The point of control is where most volume traded. Near it, order flow often balances — and price response shows whether it acts as a magnet or a pivot.
Short answer
Near a session's POC, both sides have traded heavily before, so flow tends to be two-sided and price can rotate around it. Check delta balance, tape speed and whether price spends time there. Response tests: price holding near the POC with balanced delta suggests acceptance; strong one-sided delta with price leaving suggests the POC is being rejected as value shifts. Use completed-session POCs for reference.
Possible price responses
| Price response | Reading |
|---|---|
| Rotation around POC | Acceptance |
| One-sided exit | Value shifting |
| Balanced delta, slow tape | Equilibrium |
| Quick pass-through | Not important today |
Measuring the response
Measure time within a band around the POC, delta balance and price change after leaving the band. Compare with random levels.
Example
Illustrative: price rotated within ±0.1% of yesterday's POC for 42 minutes with near-zero delta, then drifted away slowly. Equilibrium, not rejection.
