Order-Flow Reconnect Boundaries in Crypto: What Price Response Adds to the Reading
When an order-flow feed reconnects, data around the gap can be missing or duplicated. Readings that straddle a reconnect aren't reliable.
Short answer
Order-flow tools rebuild state after a reconnect: book snapshots are refetched, trades during the gap may be missing, and CVD can jump or reset. Readings that cross a reconnect boundary — delta divergence, absorption, liquidity pulls — may be artefacts. Mark reconnect times, exclude windows that cross them from studies, and check price response only on continuous data.
Possible price responses
| Price response | Reading |
|---|---|
| CVD jump at reconnect | Artefact |
| Book reset | Apparent pull or add |
| Missing trades | Delta understated |
| Continuous window | Usable |
Measuring the response
Log connection status alongside order-flow data. For any reading, check that its whole window is continuous. For Binance diff depth, use update-ID continuity to detect gaps.
Example
Illustrative: an 'absorption' reading at 14:02 coincided with a 30-second disconnect; the missing sell trades made delta look balanced while price fell.
