Predicted vs Settled Funding: Units and Time Windows That Change the Result
A predicted funding rate is an estimate that changes until settlement; a settled rate is fixed. Mixing them in one series produces false trends.
Short answer
Before settlement, venues show a current or predicted rate (Binance's premiumIndex reports lastFundingRate and nextFundingTime); after settlement, the funding history records the rate with its fundingTime. Predicted values drift with the premium through the interval. For analysis, use settled rates keyed by fundingTime; for live monitoring, record predicted values with read times and label them. Never average the two together.
