Solana Mint Authority: How to Read the Number Before a Swap
On Solana, a mint authority can create new tokens. Whether it's set — and who holds it — determines whether supply can grow after you buy.
Short answer
A Solana token's mint account records its mint authority. If it's set, that address can mint more tokens at any time, diluting holders; if it's null (revoked), supply is fixed. Before a swap, read the mint account directly, check whether the authority is an individual wallet, a multisig or a program, and compare current supply with what the project states. Revocation is permanent; an active authority is a trust assumption.
What the number means
| Reading | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Null / revoked | Supply fixed |
| Single wallet | One key can mint |
| Multisig | Several keys required |
| Program | Rules in code: read them |
