CVD Divergence at a Range High in Crypto: How to Check the Raw Trades and Data Coverage
A lower CVD high at a higher price high suggests weaker buying. Data checks come first: anchor, gaps, venue and short liquidations.
Short answer
At a range high, compare CVD at two price highs within one anchor period, check for feed gaps between them, confirm delta and price come from the same venue and market, and look for short liquidations (forced buys) at the second high. Inspect raw trades at each high: a few large buys vs many small ones change the reading. Then measure price response after confirmation.
Check the raw trades
| Check | What to look at | What it rules out |
|---|---|---|
| Same anchor period | No reset between highs | Reset artefact |
| No gaps | Continuity | Missing delta |
| Short liquidations | At second high | Forced buys |
| Raw trades | At each high | Composition |
Data explanations before market explanations
- Reset between highs
- Gap removing buying
- Forced buys from liquidations
- Venue mismatch
Example
Illustrative: a 40-second gap at the second high hid heavy buying; with recovered trades there was no divergence.
