DEX Wash-Trading Candidates: How to Read the Number Before a Swap
Wash trading inflates volume with trades that change no real ownership. Public data can't prove it, but it can show patterns worth caution.
Short answer
Wash-trading candidates show volume far larger than liquidity, few unique wallets, balanced buys and sells of similar sizes, and regular timing. None proves wash trading, but together they suggest volume isn't broad demand. Before a swap, compare volume with liquidity, buy/sell counts and sizes, and the number of makers. Treat rankings or trending positions built on such volume with caution.
What the number means
| Reading | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Volume ≫ liquidity | High churn |
| Few makers | Concentrated activity |
| Buys ≈ sells, similar sizes | Round-tripping pattern |
| Regular intervals | Bot activity |
